Lima is the capital city of the Republic of Peru. It is located on the central coast of the country, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, forming an extensive and populous urban area known as Metropolitan Lima.
The metropolitan area of Lima, also known as Lima Metropolitana or Lima-Callao, is the metropolis formed by the large central conurbation of the city of Lima and its extension to the north, south and east, which includes much of the provinces of Lima and Callao. It is the most populated metropolitan area in Peru, the eighth largest in the Americas and one of the largest in the world.
The Peruvian capital is the main industrial and financial center of the country. It is one of the most important financial centers in Latin America. The main economic sectors with high activity are manufacturing, commerce, services and tourism. Lima is responsible for more than two thirds of Peru’s industrial production and the majority of its tertiary sector.
The city has several headquarters of national and transnational companies, many of which are located in modern buildings built in different sectors, especially in the district of San Isidro, which has become the financial center of the city in recent decades.
